The question as to “what is art” has plagued artists, patrons, academics, historians and, occasionally, those with too much to drink at a party. Contemporary artists were chastised for breaking with the norm or the accepted standards. Walk around Rome, Florence or dozens of other cities and view the works of those masters who at that time were “contemporary artists” and who were bending the norms of their times.
Fast forward to today. Many of the artist you know, may have been denied entry into shows or even told their work was “not art”. The problem is two fold. First, you have juries who are judging work in the same medium they use and may have a subconscious belief that it is not as good as their own. Second, and what we at Artistic Synergy feel, is a larger problem, is the actual process under which work is created. Artists may have talent, inspiration, creativity or any combination of the three. An artist may be inspired and have flawless technique but a lack of creativity may make their work less outstanding. We could discuss the various permutations, but that is not the focus here. Their is another variable that needs to be entered and that is what do patrons want, what will they spend their money on. Have you not wondered why fair goers just walk by tent after tent more interested in Lemonade and food vendors at some shows.
We created ARTNADO realizing that no one can know or predict the complete buying habits of the attendees. Second, our juried process was designed to take into consideration the artists work from talent, inspiration, and creativity, and not to classify something as “not art” because it does not fit what “we” expect. If your work meets these criteria, then there may be a market for it. Artists need to promote themselves or they will have a limited career. Our goal is to show your art in the most favorable way and to help you display and demonstrate your work to appeal to all potential buyers.
